Webmaster Back Links Recommendations

Backlinks are the heart and soul of Search Engine Positioning. For a website to be on the top of search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. The webmaster having to pay big money for advertising, the website has to have a large number of related backlinks. For example, if your site sells apparel in a category of online shopping than a good backlink would be from a site selling shoes. Backlinks are links from one website that lead back to another website. The more established, high quality, and high Page Rank the website that contains the link has, the more power it has to help the linked website with its search engine position. If the website that is getting backlinks gets more High Quality and High Page Rank backlinks, the better the chance it has of being in a high position on the Search Engines.

How does a webmaster go about getting high quality backlinks to his or her website? There are many ways this can be done. Some people advocate writing and submitting articles, posting on forums, making comments on blogs. Others talk about submitting their website to various Internet directories. My favorite directory is DMOZ. This directory is probably the most respected directory online today. The websites it contains have all been placed there by human editors; there is no SEO tools spamming to this directory. The only downside is the amount of time this directory takes so to have a website included.

Another way that many people build backlinks for their website is to use Social Bookmarking websites. I prefer Myspace blog over Facebook open wall. But a website that usually has a very popular ‘community’ aspect to it will be very effective. Users that sign up for these sites create profiles that contain photos and information about their website. They then can post blogs with anchor text of their websites key words which makes it easier for Google to find your site. To me the key is to have as many people in your friends list add your URL to their blogs and link back to your blogs on other websites. Of cause all of these should be listed as public.

Web 2.0 is making backlinking a whole lot easier. I try and find blogs that allow you to comment and allow your website url. Most sites that have a large following usually are high quality and have a page rank 5. Some times Readers can sign in and create profiles as well. This gives you another opportunity to add you url and anchor text. Many times a blogger will respond to your comments making your link more natural and the conversation more real.

For those of you that are not twittering. Why not? Twitter is a great way to get your URL out in front of lots of people. If you have a following they will re twitter you URL and it reaches thousands of people that are there to promote them selves of their business. I also recommend linking to Gov forums. Google crawls these sites often and they are a great back link. These are just a few of the ways to get back links and I recommend you read blogs, join forums and meet new people. Really it all comes down to networking with others, making money, exchanging links or paying money for some one else to do it for you.
