I Hate Internet Marketing
You probably clicked on a link hoping the title was a coy for me telling you the secrets of website marketing. Well I hate to disappoint you since I have actually learned the truth about what it takes to succeed online. Daily my email box is filled with questions about my success and I answer each one the same way which is to work harder online then you have at any other jobs and you may possibly move up in the SERPs. Why do I say possibly? Well it really doesn’t matter which niche (category of website) that you pick there will always be competition. So how do you beat those that have already set up their web presence. The only way to beat those you are in your niche is to out market them and creating content which visitors will find more useful which in the case of my niches make money online and online marketing is extremely difficult. There are many different ways to market and I like to break down internet marketing into two categories which are increasing exposure/branding and link building.
The worst of the two is link building, this is the most draining part of being a webmaster. Let me give you an example when link building one way to increase the number of backlinks to your web presence is through directory submission and to see any real increase within the SERP’s you must submit your website to thousands, which by the way I have personally done and felt the mind numbing process of going from directory to directory thousands of times in the hope that they will accept me. Did it pay off and am I getting paid right now for my web marketing efforts well the short answer is yes, but the time my friends, the time. It took me approximately one minute to successfully submit my website to a directory half a minute when using directory submission software. Now I submitted my website to about 4 thousand directories of course in the attempt to gain 4 thousand one way backlinks. So I spent at most 4 thousand minutes going from directory to directory in the submission process which is 66 hours and since I market online about 12 hours daily equals a 5 days of straight directory submission.
Now this is of course only one example I do the same when it comes to article writing, blog commenting, social bookmarking, seo, and other website marketing techniques. I just wanted to use this example of why I would despise internet marketing. After I respond to emails asking me about my success with I hate internet marketing and explain the time it takes to succeed online the next question is “why do you do it?”. Well this one is pretty simple to explain. First and foremost I love the money if you are willing to grind out 50 thousand backlinks over a few months and come up with some excellent content on your website and/or blog then by using Google’s adsense alone you will be able to pull in 30k a year. The second reason I really enjoy being a full-time webmaster is the freedom (kinda). I choose when, how much, and where to work. Now the reason kinda is after freedom is I have the same responsibility as those that work full time in the real world. In other words if I take a week off or only put in a couple hours daily then I offer my position within the SERPs to my competitors who to me seem like robots working 24 hours daily building backlinks. So do I have freedom yes and no if I choose not to work then I begin losing money the same as any job.
Anyway I just wrote this for those who may be thinking of becoming a full time webmaster or blogger. Do not think it is all fun and no work for tons of money. Become a millionaire online? It is very possible with the right work ethic, willingness to learn, and dedication, but will be very difficult. Really becoming rich online will take the same amount of work as going to school for a degree and becoming rich that way I guess you really have to love being online to do what I do.
